  • Welcome to St Mary's Church, Great Shefford and St Stephen's Church, Shefford Woodlands

Welcome to the St Mary's, Great Shefford and our sister church St Stephen's, Shefford Woodlands website. Our parish is a part of the West Downland Benefice formed in 2009 which has a total of six parishes and eight churches. They are All Saints, Brightwalton; St Andrew's, Chaddleworth; St Mary's, Fawley; St James’, Leckhampstead; St Gregory's, Welford and St Swithin's, Wickham. We also have churches in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, St Thomas's, East Shefford and St Margaret's, Catmore.

The Revd John Townend has been the Rector of the West Downland Benefice since it was formed and was the Priest in Charge of two groups of churches some of which are now part of the new benefice from 2001. The Revd Mary Harwood is our Associate Priest living in Chaddleworth. We have a strong Parochial Church Council including our Churchwardens Serena Nickson and Phillipa Phelps. Volunteers are a vital part of our team and work hard to welcome people to our beautiful churches and make them an important part of our communities.

You will always be welcome at our church services and please do not hesitate to contact John or Mary if you would like to discuss a baptism (christening) or a wedding, or even a special service or event for your organisation, school or club. We are also always keen to hear about community projects and ways in which we might be able to support them.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon and hearing your comments.
